Summer school evaluation
What are we doing?
We are conducting a randomised controlled trial (RCT) to understand how effective summer schools are at improving access to higher education (HE).
- Our first trial evaluated summer schools which took place online in the summer of 2021.
- Our second trial evaluated summer schools which took place face-to-face or online in the summer of 2022.
A range of HE providers are involved in the trial, some of which ran summer schools for students under the age of 16 (Year 9 or 10), and some of which ran summer schools for students over the age of 16 (first year of post-16 education/Year 12).
- Download the interim report for our first summer school evaluation: Summer schools in the time of COVID-19.
- Download the interim report for the in-person summer school evaluation: School’s in for the summer
The final report will be published in 2024/25, depending on when enrolment to HE data becomes available.
