Implementing empirical evaluations with correlational (Type 2) evidence
Join our evaluation training event where you’ll learn how to plan and conduct a robust correlated impact evaluation (type 2 – empirical enquiry). This session is tailored to help you meet the Office for Students (OfS) standards of evidence, specifically focusing on how to effectively gather and analyse both quantitative and qualitative data to inform decision-making and drive change within your institution.
Key elements in this session
- Explore how to meet the OfS correlated impact evaluation standard (empirical enquiry).
- Learn about validated survey questionnaire scales, including an introduction to the Access and Success Questionnaire that you can implement immediately.
- Identify other types of quantitative data within your institution that you may not have previously considered.
- Gain skills in gathering qualitative data, and learn best practices for conducting interviews and focus groups.
- Understand how to interpret, analyse, and present both qualitative and quantitative feedback to inform decisions and effect change in your institution.
- By the end of the session, you will have a basic outline of a correlated impact evaluation plan for your intervention and a strong foundation to explore more complex evaluations in the future.
Who should attend?
- Individuals in any role within higher education providers
- People from third-sector organisations who are new to evaluation.
- Experienced evaluators seeking to refresh their knowledge of evaluative practices.
- Practitioners, managers, and widening participation team members.
- Support staff aiming to enhance their understanding and application of evaluation practices.
- Those running interventions or programmes aimed at supporting young people to access, participate, and succeed at university.
Why attend?
- Targeted learning: Gain a deep understanding of how to develop an IPE using TASO’s IPE guidance. You will work directly on your own IPE plan throughout the workshop, with personalised guidance and support from experienced facilitators.
- Professional development: Learn to conduct effective implementation and process evaluations, ensuring your interventions are evidence-based and impactful.
- Benefit for your institution: Create an outline IPE plan that you can further develop with your team, helping to improve the success of your interventions.
