News25 February 2025

TASO is seeking to appoint at least one evaluator to work with two higher education providers to test the impact of interventions designed to support student success through randomised controlled trials or quasi-experimental designs.
Each impact evaluation will be accompanied by an implementation and process evaluation which will use quantitative and qualitative data to determine who the intervention works for, in what situations it works and why it works (or doesn’t).
We are separately running an invitation to tender (ITT) for higher education providers to submit their student-success interventions for consideration.
Available funding
TASO is providing the following funding to support the resourcing of the project.
- Up to £170,000 (excluding VAT) to support the scoping, design and analysis of the impact evaluations at two providers
- Up to £35,000 (excluding VAT) per appointed higher education provider to support the design and analysis of an implementation and process evaluation. Higher education providers are given the option to conduct their own IPE, and for those who do, this option will not be exercised.
Project timings
- The application process closes on 13:00 GMT 27 March 2025 with a decision likely week commencing 14 April 2025
- The project is likely to start with a scoping phase in June to September 2025, before moving on to data collection from September/October 2025.
- The length of the project will depend on the interventions being evaluated but could run for one academic year with interim reporting in March 2026 and final reporting in early 2027.
