An introduction to quasi-experimental designs: causal evaluation methodologies without randomisation – sign up now
On Tuesday 8th March we will be holding the second webinar in our ‘Unlocking Effective Evaluation’ series, a new online webinar series designed to promote robust, thorough and effective evaluation in the higher education sector, and provide practitioners with the skills and knowledge they need to get the most out of their evaluation practices.
The webinar will be centred on quasi-experimental designs (QEDs). The aim of this session is to help researchers and evaluators gain a better understanding of how to use QEDs to conduct rigorous impact evaluation without randomisation.

About the webinar
As part of TASO’s Unlocking Effective Evaluation series, we are hosting an evaluation webinar on the topic of quasi-experimental designs (QEDs). The aim of this session is to help researchers and evaluators gain a better understanding of how to use QEDs to conduct rigorous impact evaluation without randomisation.
The session will be presented in four sections:
- An introduction to quasi-experimental designs
- Difference-in-difference method
- Regression discontinuity design
- Q&A with the audience
Who is it for?
The webinar will be relevant for all researchers, evaluators and widening participation/student success practitioners who are interested to learn more about how to conduct type 3 impact evaluation.
If you’re new to impact evaluation, you might find it helpful to watch some pre-recorded webinars prior to joining us for this session:
The TASO Monitoring and Evaluation Framework
Correlation versus causation
We have pitched this webinar at an intermediate/advanced level. Throughout the session, we will explain the theory and use practical examples of how to use the methodologies.
